Health Care Services

The McCall Centre philosophy is derived from Extendicare’s commitment to its patients. This commitment underlines recognizing the uniqueness and individuality of each patient and each individual’s inherent right to have respect and autonomy. Through an interdisciplinary approach, these principles guide the operating philosophy of the McCall Centre patient care team. The emphasis on patient and staff quality of life is supported through this model.

The McCall Centre is committed to providing care through skilled nursing and medical supervision with empathy, courtesy, respect and dignity. Working together with family and friends, we encourage active participation and involvement in the care of our patients.

Patient care is provided through an interdisciplinary team framework. The team consists of physician, nursing staff, physio and occupational therapist, dietician, speech language pathologist, chaplain, recreation staff, and social worker.

Treatment and care planning are developed with the participation of the patient and his/her family. The team regularly assesses the patient’s condition and care plans are revised as necessary. In the event where a patient’s health improves and their medical and nursing needs change, the patient may be discharged to an alternative level of care.

Physician Care

Each nursing unit is staffed by two physicians from the Department of Geriatric Medicine at Trillium Health Partners. Each patient is assigned a physician who is responsible for coordinating the care plan with the interdisciplinary team. There is also a physician on call on a 24-hour basis.

Nursing Care

Registered nurses, registered practical nurses and personal support workers staff each unit, working under a permanent team leader/charge nurse on each unit. Additional medical support, lab and diagnostic services and specialty consultations are provided through the clinics at Queensway and Mississauga sites of The Trillium Health Partners.

Rehabilitation Services

The physiotherapy and rehabilitation team also include an occupational therapist and speech pathologist. They work together to increase independence by:

•Improving and maintaining functional independence and physical performance

•Preventing and managing pain, physical impairments, liabilities and limits to participation

•Promoting fitness, health and wellness

•Providing assessments for appropriate assistive devices
